Q&A with The Hoss Homestead

We recently teamed up with Alli Devlin, the Seattle-based designer behind @the.hoss.homstead. Together, we added more storage and comfort to her basement den! Read on to see the space and learn more about the inspiration behind the design.

What was the design inspiration for the space?

The design idea was a casual, refined living space. Because this is our downstairs den where we hang out to watch movies, work on creative projects and lounge, the room needs to feel warm and relaxed. But it also needs to meet our functional needs for storage.

What were the most important elements in designing the space?

The den is situated in a walkout basement with less natural light than our upstairs living spaces. I kept the walls white so they’d reflect light into the room, since I knew that cabinets would add tone, contrast and visual dimension. I selected the Moro cabinets for the rich walnut wood and the eye-catching banding detail.

What was delivery day like?

Easy going! Which is the very best thing that I can say. Even though this is my sixth delivery from Room & Board, each time I am impressed with the customer-first approach and professionalism of the delivery team.

How would you describe your design style?

I’d describe it as contemporary with a mid-century modern influence and a colorful streak. My color palette is walnut, white oak, black, white and jewel tones.

How do you relax and unwind at home?

We are lucky to live on a phenomenal riverfront property. Last year, we completed a renovation of our second-story deck, so we spend a lot of time hanging there and enjoying the scenery.

What are three things you can’t live without?

Travel, family and friends and good food!
